Today, the modeling world was rocked by the tragic news in the untimely loss of one of its own. It has been announced of Wilhelmina model Joanne Borgella has lost her battle with cancer Saturday evening. The established Plus-Size model death was announced originally by her family via the 32 year-old’s facebook fanpage. Borgella battled with a rare form of endometrial cancer for a year.

Back in October 2013, Borgella announced she had been diagnosed with a cancer that had spread to her breast. Through a series of videos, Joanne kept fans in the loop on her condition and progress. After recently suffering from painful headaches, it was diagnosed that the cancer had spread into her brain. Shortly after, the Haitian model lost her battle with the rare disease.

Instantly upon the news surfacing, fans and various media outlets sent out their condolences to Joanne’s family. Joanne’s agency, Wilhelmina took to their instagram to issue a special farewell to their beloved client.

Joanne Borgella is notably recognized as a cast member on the popular NuVo TV reality-series; Curvy Girls. Borgella joined the series in 2013. Prior to the show, she had been the face of major fashion brands Torrid, Ashley Stewart, and Kohls. Under the Wilhelmina roster, she has appeared in advertisements featured in Seventeen, Essence and InStyle. Joanne signed with Wilhelmina shortly after was “Miss F.A.T.” 2005, and the winner of Oxygen network’s number one show Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance season one. Joanne’s last publicized campaign involved her as the faces of Procter & Gamble. A new campaign that many are calling a “movement” directed at the African American woman, “My Black is Beautiful”.
