Sunday night may have ended in controversy but in the end a new Miss Universe was crowned. The whole world watched as Miss Philippines’ Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe 2015 live during the Fox’s 2015 Miss Universe beauty pageant competition. At first mistakenly announced as the runner-up to Miss Columbia’s Ariadna Gutierrez, it was revealed moments later that Pia was the real Miss Universe winner while Miss Colombia was the 1st runner-up for the title. Apologizes were made and a surprisingly tearful Miss Philippines accepted her crown honored to her by previous 2014 Miss Universe Paulina Vega. Wurtzbach was unable to take her first walk as Miss Universe as the network quickly and abruptly ended the competition.
After the show eneded, Miss Universe judges, contestants, and even Steve Harvey himself quickly took to social media to make statements on the awkward mistake and congrats to Miss Philippines. Miss Philippines gave a brief comment on the awkward position she was in while being crowned Miss Universe with CNN:

Since the airing of the pageant, video has went viral of Miss Universe host Steve Harvey apologizing for the mistake crowning to Miss Philipiines backstage, show below:
Miss Colombia also sent out a message to supporters backstage, commenting on the mistake as well, shown below:
Pia has also released a statement to Miss Colombia, telling reporters, “I’m very sorry, I wish her well.”
Bit of background on the 26-year-old, Pia Wurtzbach is of German and Filipino-descent born in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. Wurtzbach has competed as Miss Philippines in the Miss Universe competition two times previously before being crowned this year. Also in 2015 she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2015, another pageant competition Wurtzbach competed in three consecutive times. It is currently unknown when Wurtzbach was discovered by scouts but has a lengthy background as professional beauty competitor. Wurtzbach is also currently a journalist for Inquirer Lifestyles.
The second runner-up in the Miss Universe competition was Miss USA’s Olivia Jordan. Follow American and former Miss Universe stake owner Donald Trump proposed the mistaken crowning should be fixed to both Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines being presented as co-winners. Trump sold his shares in the Miss Universe pageant earlier this year after controversy surfaced of remarks he made during his presidential campaign.
Pia Wurtzbach is set to greet the world as the new Miss Universe through a series of North American and International press runs.
