Australian model Iggy Azalea is looking to be taken serious as a professional model. Although critics have identified the 23 year-old as a “successful model”. Azalea is currently having a difference of opinion on the title and in an interview with New York Daily News broke down her current modeling contract. Calling the contract no different from other recording artist with modeling-related deals:

“I find it so weird that I’m called a model,” says the 23-year-old recording artist. “I’m signed to a modeling agency — but as an artist. It’s the same deal as Chris Brown and Fergie and so many others. But they’re described as artists and I’m called a model.”

Azalea signed a modeling contract with the world-renounced Wilhelmina Models in Spring 2012 after receiving U.S. recognition for rising recording artist career through her early music efforts. Shortly after joining Wilhelmina, Azalea was announced as the face of Levi Jeans new “Go Forth” campaign. Other than her Levi campaign, Azalea has only been aligned with one other fashion line in her two-year professional modeling career with eyewear brand; House of Holland debut collection. It’s been through her musical releases Azalea remained a topic of discussion in the public since 2012.

Similar to her music career, Azalea is looking to garner respect and taken seriously as a model and not allow her popularity in another aspect of her life to be the only cause of interest among endorsers and critics within modeling. Azalea has mentioned in other interviews that she is looking to a recognizable face in modeling in the future. However, her music has been her primary priority over the year as she is set to release her major label debut this Tuesday; The New Classic.

With touring and musical commitments a current priority, the last we have seen of Azalea’s modeling efforts include her co-starred GQ fashion spread in the March 2014 issue with new boyfriend and Los Angeles Laker Nick Young.

Azalea has been identified as a beauty for her voluptuous exterior and has attended many fashion related shows and ceremonies like the 2013 Brit Awards. Wilhelmina categorize Azalea as a model with their representation, not an artist.”
